Wizards For Health and Fitness

Broadway and Food Pyramid

The Harlem Wizards are very serious about health and fitness! We believe commitment to healthy living is crucial to success for our players and staff. We are hopeful that this commitment will inspire Wizard fans around the world to take control of their own health destiny.

  • 100 calories of beef has 10 grams of protein.
  • 100 calories of spinach has 12 grams of protein!
  • Strawberries are the only fruit that have their seeds on the outside.

Inspired by Dr. Fuhrman, Broadway, DP and Rocket have taken on the challenge of healthy eating on the road, a bear of a job! Since most restaurants, except fast food places, are closed after the game, they now travel with a portable grill, high-powered blender and ice coolers filled with vegetables and fruit.

Message from Dr. Fuhrman

The truth is that the same foods that help you to maintain a healthy weight and protect against heart disease, diabetes, and other diseases, are also the best foods to fuel athletic activity. These foods are beans, green vegetables, seeds, nuts, whole grains, other colorful vegetables and fruits, and they provide the best possible fuel for athletes. Athletes need to make sure that they get enough micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytochemicals) from the foods they eat. To find out more go to www.drfuhrman.com

Broadway, our player coach, came back from ACL knee surgery (to repair a career-threatening injury) after only 6 months! Broadway credits Dr. Rob Gotlin, the dedicated team doctor (Orthopedic Physician), as well as his Physical Therapist, Yvonne Johnson, for his amazing recovery.

Combining their fitness plan with Dr. Joel Fuhrman's nutrient-rich diet, he was back better than ever with a 10 pound weight loss and a 9% decrease in body fat!

Todd Davis, our President, followed the health and nutrition program (Eat for Health) of Dr. Joel Fuhrman, one of the world leaders on healthy eating, and improved his overall health, including a 30 pound weight loss.

Dr. Fuhrman, a father and former world class skater, became a Wizards fan when we visited his hometown of Flemington, NJ. He generously invited the whole organization to his office for a Healthy Eating seminar.
